Boldly Go Where No Man has Gone Before - and Back to the Darkness

[Wed, March 05, 2008 - Peter & Sandra McIntosh Thailand]

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before – Nepal – (well not really – but it sounds good) - Peter.

The baby was born on the wrong day. Because it was the wrong day, his father ordered his mother to kill the infant. Not being willing to smother the child, the mother sent the baby to relatives to be raised. Twelve years later the father consulted with those with more knowledge of astrology and realized his mistake. The baby had not been born on the wrong day and he therefore sent for his son.

Instead of a great reunion, the father refused to speak to or even look at the boy for an entire year, just in case. The son became depressed. Depression in the boy turned into rage. He wanted to kill. The young man joined the Maoist Communists and wanted to start a revolution. Along his hate-filled path, he found a Christian tract. This led him to some Christians who led him to Jesus. The revolutionary became revolutionized by the love of Christ. This once rejected baby, this ex-Maoist revolutionary is now the leader of an emerging movement in Nepal. We have connected with him and partnered with the first Thai missionary from our organization in Thailand going to Nepal to reach Nepali people. This is exciting. This is huge. THIS is revolutionary! This is the seed of the Kingdom bursting forth again! Thank you for helping us make this possible.

Out of the Darkness into the Light – and back to the Darkness - Sandra.

Not all missions stories are "success" stories in the traditional sense of success. The sweetest young Thai woman you have ever seen stands about 4"7", is cute as a button, laughs like a child, and embraces you like it's the first time she's been hugged. She first came to NightLight over a year ago leaving the sex industry behind. She was a freelancer, in charge of herself on the streets. She looks about 20 but is really 32 and has 2 children. She stayed with us for quite awhile but she has a problem – she's a sex addict. She accepted Jesus and really tried to live for Him, always apologizing every time she sinned. I told her that God loves her and was patient but guilt overwhelmed her.

This week I saw her back on the streets. She told us she couldn't give up sex. Even though she hates being a prostitute the chains of addiction drag her back. This isn't a rah rah missions story, but I also don't underestimate the power of the work of the Holy Spirit. She tasted God's love, still receives His love though us when we see her, and knows we care. Missions isn't about just giving people a job, or food, or friendship, it's about the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. I'm believing that "He who began a good work in Her is faithful to complete it." This young woman is a work in process. There is more to her story. There's still ink in God's pen.
